How to propagate Monstera

How to propagate Monstera

1. Seed propagation

This method first requires collecting seeds. They usually produce seeds after blooming in the summer. When the seeds are not yet mature, you must pay attention to strengthening management to ensure that the seeds are healthy and strong. Once the seeds are mature, they can be collected. Choose healthy seeds and soak them in water of suitable temperature for about 10 hours. The water temperature of 40 degrees Celsius is most suitable.

Disinfect the soil in advance, either with disinfectant or by exposing it directly to the sun. Then sow the seeds on the soil, about one seed every 2 to 3 centimeters.

After planting, the temperature around the pot should be kept between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. You can lay a layer of film on it to keep the soil moist. The seeds will germinate in less than a month. After they grow leaves, they can be planted separately in different pots.

2. Cutting propagation

This method of reproduction is usually adopted in spring or autumn.

First, you need to select side branches. Generally, choose healthy branches grown in the current year as cuttings, and the length should be preferably 20 to 25 cm. Remove the leaves at the base of the branches and only keep the leaflets on top. The soil is best mixed with leaf mold, peat or coarse sand. After inserting the cuttings into the soil, be sure to provide it with a suitable environment. For example, the temperature should be controlled within the range of 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, and the humidity should be higher. It will take root in about 30 days.

3. Division propagation

This method is usually carried out in summer or autumn. The possibility of survival is relatively high and it is also easy to operate. You can do this when repotting. Simply remove the entire side branch of a healthy and thriving plant, making sure it still has some aerial roots, and then plant this part directly in the pot.
