What does an old sunflower stump look like?

How to deal with old sunflower stumps?

1. If you want to grow sunflowers into old stumps, you must choose those sunflowers with perennial roots. Those annual branches that die in the same year are basically unusable. You can choose varieties that are tall and easy to branch, such as Sparkle.

2. Then, use a pair of sterilized sharp scissors to remove the branches, leaving about 7-10cm for each side branch.

3. Choose your favorite sunflower color and cut off the flowering branches to a length of about 10 cm.

4. The cut flowering branches must be trimmed before use. You can use a sharp knife to cut the lower end of the branch at a 45° angle, and then place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry the wound.

5. Use a knife to make a small cut on the prepared mother plant, and then fit the trimmed sunflower branches tightly together with the cut.

6. Because the branches of sunflowers are relatively soft, you must find a rope or a small clip to tie the sunflower scion and rootstock together.

7. Place the grafted sunflowers directly under the sun for maintenance. It only takes about 1 week for the sunflower rootstock and scion to grow completely together. In this way, as long as you take good care of it in the later stage, it can become an old stump and bloom flowers of various colors!

How to make old sunflower stumps bloom quickly?

1. Big water and big sun

Only by giving sunflowers sufficient light can they grow wildly. Therefore, you can place the sunflowers on the south balcony or south windowsill, or move them directly outdoors. If you see the stems wilt a bit, just water them.

2. Add some compound fertilizer

Although sunflowers can grow well without any care, you still have to add some compound fertilizer if you want them to bloom out of the pot. Every time you water the sunflowers, you can add 3-5 grains of compound fertilizer into the water. This is enough to supplement the nutrients for the sunflowers!

3. Build a support frame

If you want the sunflowers to grow into stacked layers, you must use a rack to support them. You can bend the wire slightly, or you can use a protective rack or net to fix the sunflower branches.
