How to grow geranium

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Geranium does not have high requirements for soil, but it prefers sandy loam rich in humus.

2. Watering: Water in moderation. Spring and autumn are the peak growth seasons, so ensure sufficient water, but no stagnant water. It is best not to water when the weather is bad. Do not water during the rainy season. Drainage measures should be taken and place it in a ventilated place. Water less in winter. If the temperature is high, water more appropriately.

3. Fertilization: Fertilize once every 10-15 days during the peak growing season, and apply liquid fertilizer once every 7-10 days in spring and autumn; if the temperature is high in winter, you can apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer, but when the temperature is high in summer, it will enter a semi-dormant state and it is best not to fertilize; apply nitrogen fertilizer before flower buds appear, and then mainly use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

4. Light: Sufficient sunlight is conducive to its better growth, but it needs to be shaded appropriately during the hot summer. It can be placed directly in a sunny place during spring, autumn and winter. Insufficient light will affect its flowering, so it should be avoided from strong light during flowering.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Seeding propagation: You can sow the seeds after collecting them. If you want to sow them when the weather is cool, you can dry and store the seeds first. They will germinate in about 7-10 days when the temperature is 20℃.

2. Propagation by cuttings: Spring and autumn are the best seasons for propagation by cuttings. Choose healthy cuttings, soak them in indolebutyric acid for about 5 seconds and let them dry. Wait until they wilt before propagating by cuttings. Water them thoroughly and avoid strong light exposure. They will take root after 2-3 weeks.

3. Common pests and diseases

Common diseases and pests include mosaic disease, root rot, small feather moth, caterpillars, white mosquitoes, etc. It is important to prevent mosaic disease and kill aphids, and it is also necessary to remove nearby parasitic plants; small feather moth can be killed by spraying with dichlorvos.
