How does Clivia pollinate?

How does Clivia pollinate?

1. Time

The flowering period of this flower is from winter to spring. If the flowers bloom earlier, pollination can start from December, while if they bloom later, it can start from April or May. Some may bloom in the summer, but the temperature will be very high, the pollination quality will not be very high, and they will wither easily. March is when its flowers bloom most, and this period is also the best time for pollination.

2. Artificial pollination

This flower can rely on insects for pollination. If it is placed indoors in winter or spring, no insects will come, so we can pollinate it artificially.

3. Parent selection

We need to know that if plants are mated with distant relatives, the offspring will be stronger and have stronger adaptability. If it is self-pollination, the seeds will be fewer, and even if they are produced, it will be difficult for them to germinate and they will not develop very well. We can choose different plants of the same variety, but it is better to choose different plants of different varieties, so that it will produce more fruits and its offspring will grow well. In addition, we must pay attention to its characteristics. The color and size of the flowers and the length of the leaves are all affected by genetics, so we must consider the characteristics of the parents to complement each other's strengths and weaknesses and select the best pollination.

4. Flowering habits

We need to know that if we want to ensure that the plants can produce more seeds, we still need to understand the relevant characteristics of the flowers. Each flower of this plant can basically bloom for about twenty days. If the temperature is higher, more flowers will bloom. There will be more than ten or twenty flowers on each inflorescence, so the average flowering period of the flowers on the entire inflorescence is about forty to fifty days.

5. Pollination steps

The one with three forks in the flower is the pistil, and the others with anthers are stamens. You can use the stamen pollen to dot the trident column. If pollen is very precious, you can use a sewing needle to stick the pollen on. The best time to add pollen is when the stamens are blooming and the trident column has mucus. The success rate will be higher if you perform this operation at noon. The flowering will not be good in the first year, which may easily damage the plant. If you want to store pollen, you can refrigerate it for a short period of time, but freeze it for a long time, and the temperature should be below five degrees.
