How to grow lavender

How to grow lavender

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Lavender prefers sandy soil with good drainage, and it is best to choose slightly alkaline or neutral soil.

2. Watering: Wait until the soil becomes dry before watering. Make sure to water thoroughly. It is best to water in the morning when there is no sunlight, otherwise water splashing onto the leaves will cause them to rot and breed pests.

3. Light: It likes plenty of sunlight, preferably all day long. If it is in summer, you must take shade measures, increase ventilation appropriately, or spray water around it to lower the temperature in the air.

4. Fertilization: When applying fertilizer, it must be diluted with water to avoid burning the roots due to excessive concentration of fertilizer. Do not apply too much fertilizer, as it will cover up the fragrance. Bone meal can be used as a base fertilizer.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Propagation by cuttings: Choose strong and pest-free branches for cuttings, remove the leaves at the bottom of the branches, soak them in rooting agents, and insert them into the prepared soil. It will take root in about half a month.

2. Seeding propagation: Select seeds of uniform size and fullness, soak them in warm water for about a day, soak them in concentrated sulfuric acid for about 5 minutes, then wash them with water and dry them before sowing. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 20-25℃.

3. Common pests and diseases

1. Red spider mites: The appearance of red paper will make the leaves dry, yellow and withered. After discovery, water and fertilizer management should be strengthened. In the early stage, 1000 times diluted 0.26% matrine can be sprayed. In severe cases, 1000~2000 times diluted 20% dicofol emulsifiable concentrate can be sprayed.

2. Root rot: To prevent it, you must choose soil with good drainage and pay attention to pruning diseased and old branches. You can spray the leaves with 400 times diluted 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder or 500 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder.
