What to do if Clivia has too many roots

What to do if Clivia has too many roots

1. Not blooming

Because the plant has not yet bloomed, if we cut its roots, it will easily cause problems with its absorption, because the roots are the main body of absorbing nutrients. Therefore, it is better to wait until it finishes blooming before treating the plant. The biggest reason why it still has so many roots before blooming is that we usually apply too much fertilizer to it.

2. Blooming

If a plant that has bloomed has a lot of roots, it needs to be properly treated. There are two specific methods.

1. Root pruning

The plant is not satisfied with the size of the flowerpot. Too many roots will make its space crowded, and it will be difficult to absorb some nutrients. At this time, the rotten roots, long roots and old roots should be cut off from the roots, and then let it air-dry. Be careful not to let it be exposed to the sun. If you want it to be faster, you can use cigarette butts to burn the cut part dry. The natural drying time is about half a day. The purpose of letting it dry is to prevent bacterial invasion. After that, we plant it back into the soil and water it to help it take root. If there are some diseased roots or dead roots, these need to be cut off, and the attached roots also need to be cut off, otherwise the future growth of the roots will be affected.

2. Division

If the plant has too many roots, you can consider dividing its roots so that it can be turned into several small pots. In this way, it can return to normal from the state of overflowing the pot, and can also become several new pots of plants. When dividing the plant, the diseased and dead roots still need to be cut off, and the good roots need to be well maintained and not allowed to be injured.
