How to pollinate yew

How to pollinate yew

1. Male pollen collection

When the male flower buds of the yew begin to bloom for the first time, after two days, its flowers will basically all be in full bloom. This is the best time to collect the male flowers. First, spread its male flowers on white glossy paper, paying attention to the uniform thickness when spreading. After spreading, find another piece of white glossy paper to cover it, remembering that the glossy side should be facing up. Then you can put it under the sun, and remember to turn the male flowers over every 2 hours. After 1 day, you can see powder. At this time, find a fine-mesh sieve to gently select and remove the debris inside.

2. Pollination time

When pollinating female plants, you must choose the right time, usually around 9 am or 3 pm 2-3 days after the male plants bloom. At this time, we gently touch the stigma of the male flower with our fingers. If a ribbon-like water strip appears on it, pollination can be carried out, and the success rate of pollination is also very high.

3. Pollen treatment

Find some clean water and put the pollen in it, then start to mix it evenly, then add a little borax and sugar. The purpose is to make the pollen more active, so as to increase the fertilization rate.

4. Pollination method

Put the pollen into a sprayer and use it for spray pollination; or you can put a small amount of pollen into a gauze bag, poke some small holes in the bag, and then tie it to a 3-meter-long bamboo pole and use natural wind for pollination; or you can use wind pollination.

5. Notes

During the pollination process, some problems may arise, such as the activity of the stigma and pollen, the activity of the stigma and the surrounding conditions, etc. No matter which one it is, if the activity is too low or the environment is too bad, the success rate of fertilization will be greatly reduced. If the activity is high or the environment is suitable, the success rate of fertilization will be greatly increased.
