What to do if Michelia odorifera leaves fall off

What to do if Michelia odorifera leaves fall off

Normal aging

Michelia can be seen for both its flowers and leaves. After being planted for a period of time, the plant's own metabolism will cause the old leaves to gradually turn yellow and fall off. This is normal and there is no need to worry. Just do a good job of daily maintenance and clean up the fallen leaves in time without affecting the ventilation and light transmission of the plant. The new leaves that grow will also be very strong.

Poor soil permeability

Michelia requires good permeability of the planting soil. If the soil is too sticky, it will cause difficulty in the roots breathing and all the leaves will fall off. Solution: If you find that the plant is losing leaves seriously, replace the soil in time. It is best to choose a mixture of one-third peat soil or leaf mold and two-thirds fine sand.

Overwatering

The roots of Michelia are fleshy. If you water it too much, it will cause root rot, which will cause the leaves to fall off. Solution: Master the correct watering method, water when the soil is dry, do not water heavily, and do not water under direct sunlight.

Temperature is too low

Low temperature is also one of the reasons why Michelia floribunda drops its leaves. When the temperature is lower than 5 ℃, the absorption capacity of Michelia will weaken, causing the young branches and leaves of the plant to wilt and fall off. Therefore, the temperature must be controlled during the maintenance period, especially in winter, and the plant should be moved indoors for maintenance in time.

Too concentrated fertilizer

The most common reason why plants lose leaves is too much fertilizer. Many flower lovers fertilize Michelia on a whim, thinking that it will grow more healthily, but this actually causes root burns. However, Michelia does not like fertilizer. During the growth period, it is sufficient to apply a thin liquid fertilizer once a month.
