How to fertilize azalea

How to fertilize azalea

1. Types

Fertilizing requires controlling many things. In addition to time, we need to control the quantity and concentration. It has many roots, so it can absorb fertilizers, but it is very afraid of highly concentrated fertilizers, so generally we cannot apply human feces and urine to it, but alum fertilizer water is fine.

2. Time

Fertilizing it should be based on its growth period. Generally speaking, from March to May, it is the time when its branches, leaves and flower buds grow. At this time, what we need to do is to apply fertilizer to it once a week so that it can have enough nutrition. From June to August, it enters semi-dormancy due to midsummer, so it is best not to apply fertilizer at this time, otherwise its leaves will fall off and may turn yellow, and it may even be attacked by diseases and insects. After September, it starts to grow again. At this time, liquid phosphorus fertilizer is basically applied once every ten days, and the supply of fertilizer is stopped after October. If you do not stop fertilizing at this time, the plant will grow new leaves, but these leaves will be very fragile and it will be very difficult for them to survive the winter.

3. Seedlings

Generally, plants of different sizes require different fertilizers. If they are only one to two years old, no fertilizer is needed because there is enough fertilizer in the soil at this time. For plants of three to five years, from late spring to midsummer, you can consider applying dilute fertilizer once every fifteen days. In addition, if the plant is four years old, dry cake fertilizer should be applied in spring and autumn, with the amount being around twenty grams.

What we need to pay attention to is that if the leaves of the plant turn yellow, most of the reasons may be too much fertilizer. Therefore, we need to stop fertilizing, then dig out the dry fertilizer, and then water it more to get rid of the accumulated fertilizer. After watering, move it to a windy place. If there is too much fertilizer accumulated, it needs to be washed twice more. Generally, it will grow normally after half a year.
