How to trim aloe vera

How to trim aloe vera

1. Different situations require different pruning methods

If you want to prune it for aesthetic purposes, how should you prune it to get a nice plant shape? First of all, you must ensure the correct method of cutting the leaves. The knife must be sharp enough. It is best to disinfect it with alcohol first. Then start cutting along the base of the aloe leaf. Try to make the incision as flat as possible and be careful not to scratch the rhizome. After cutting off the lower leaves, the whole plant will feel taller and not as dull as when there are more leaves at the bottom.

When the roots of aloe vera are rotten, they must be pruned carefully. The rotten parts of the roots must be completely cut off without leaving any trace. This will also leave space and nutrients for new roots to grow. After cutting off the roots, wait until the wound is dry before planting in the soil, otherwise it will not be conducive to the recovery of the wound. Wilted or diseased leaves also need to be cut off.

If the aloe vera grows too vigorously, you can cut off the complicated leaves. When the tender roots are just sprouting, cut off the bottom of the leaf buds to appropriately inhibit its growth rate.

2. Care after pruning

The soil for the aloe vera potted plant after pruning should be fertile to ensure that the plant has sufficient nutrients. Secondly, the potting soil must have a strong ability to store water. When the flower soil is moist, it will naturally have sufficient moisture to maintain its normal life activities. In addition, the air permeability of flower soil is also important for its survival. Airtight flower soil will make it difficult for the roots to breathe, making it easy for root rot to occur.

However, too good air permeability will cause nutrients to be lost too quickly, so the sand and clay used for cultivation must be processed and made neutral before they can be used as a substrate for cultivating aloe vera. In addition to the above conditions, you must also ensure that there is no water accumulation in the pot, so do not water too much. In addition, it is best to place it where it is not easily exposed to sunlight.
