With just one trick, you can turn Clivia and Asparagus Fern from one pot into multiple pots. You never need to buy flowers again!

Clivia

Usually, mature Clivia will sprout new buds at the rhizome every year. When you repot the Clivia in spring, you can separate these new buds and plant them in other pots. With careful care, you will have a new flower in a few days.

Clivia division method:

1. Move the Clivia out of the pot, being careful not to damage its roots and buds.

2. Clean the soil around the roots and carefully break off the small buds. It is best to keep some of the roots to facilitate survival.

3. Clean the root system and cut off diseased and old roots. And apply some carbendazim powder on the wound.

4. Place the Clivia in a ventilated place to dry. At the same time, prepare potting soil suitable for the growth of Clivia, according to the ratio of leaf mold: pine needle soil: river sand = 3:2:1. For small buds without roots, the proportion of sand should be increased. Then plant the Clivia in the soil.

5. Water until water can seep out from the holes at the bottom of the flowerpot. Place the Clivia in a cool and ventilated place, be careful not to put it in the sun, and wait until new leaves grow before you can take care of it normally!

lily

Because lilies are bulbous flowers, a circle of small bulbs will grow around the old lily bulbs. These small bulbs are the materials for our division.

How to divide lily:

1. After the lilies wither and before they enter dormancy, remove them from the pots, gently shake off the soil, and rinse the roots with clean water.

2. Use a sterilized, sharp knife to separate the bulbs. It is best to leave some roots on each bulb to facilitate survival later.

3. Place the bulbs to be divided in carbendazim solution (carbendazim: water = 1:2000) and disinfect for 20 to 30 minutes. After disinfection, the bulbs are dried and stored in sand. When potting, choose fertile and loose soil. You can mix the soil according to the ratio of peat soil: river sand: sawdust = 6:3:1. You can add some slow-release fertilizer to the bottom of the soil as base fertilizer.

4. After placing the bulbs, cover them with soil. If conditions permit, flower lovers can apply some base fertilizer, water them thoroughly and place them in a cool and ventilated place. It will take about 3 or 4 weeks for new shoots to appear. During this period, the soil should be kept slightly moist.

asparagus

As asparagus fern will continue to grow new plants. If the original pot can no longer hold them, you must change the pot or divide the plants. Otherwise, it will be detrimental to the growth of asparagus fern and may cause problems such as root rot and yellow leaves.

Method of dividing asparagus fern:

1. Carefully clean out the soil in the flowerpot, being careful not to damage the roots, and finally take out the whole plant. Use your hands to gently pat the roots to remove the dirt, be gentle, and finally rinse with water.

2. Find the node where the roots grow and gently break it apart. If you can't pry it apart, you may have found the wrong place. Don't use brute force to pry it apart, but find the node again. Be careful not to choose asparagus fern that is too small.

3. Sprinkle some charcoal powder or ash on the wound, and then place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Once the roots are dry, you can repot them.

4. To prevent root rot, you can put a layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the flower pot. Place a layer of soil on top of the expanded clay, and mix organic fertilizer into the soil as base fertilizer. Note that asparagus fern likes loose and fertile soil. You can prepare the potting soil according to the ratio of leaf mold: coarse sand = 7:3.

5. After placing the asparagus fern, gently shake the plant while filling it with the prepared potting soil. Finally, gently compact the soil with your hands. When watering, make sure the water is thoroughly poured. After that, place the asparagus fern in a cool and ventilated place for about 7 days.

Chlorophytum

As the spider plant grows, it will branch out and grow small spider plants. We can use these small spider plants to divide the plants.

How to divide spider plants:

1. Find the newly grown small spider plants and cut them off.

2. Choose a flower pot with large drainage holes, put newspapers and tiles at the bottom of the pot to cover the drainage holes, and put a layer of expanded clay at the bottom as a drainage layer.

3. Bury the small spider plant in loose and fertile soil. It does not need to be buried too deep, 1-2 cm is enough, and water it thoroughly.

4. Place the planted spider plant in a cool and ventilated place, and you can carry out normal maintenance after about a week.
