How to grow pearl bush bonsai

Pot soil

The potting soil should be loam with good permeability, strong drainage and fertility. Apply organic fertilizer once in late autumn and early winter, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once before flowering. Water the plant in moderation to keep the soil moist. Avoid keeping it too wet for a long time, and certainly not waterlogged. Potted plants should be placed in direct sunlight as much as possible. Low temperature dormancy in winter is their physiological need. They should not be placed in a greenhouse to avoid growth and flowering the following year. They should be placed in the open air, in a sheltered, sunny place, or the pots should be covered with soil to safely overwinter. Prune the tree after the leaves fall and before the next year's budding, and cut off diseased branches, dry branches, and thin and weak branches among the overcrowded branches. Shorten the branches that are too long to keep the plant in good shape and allow ventilation and light to facilitate flowering.

Temperature and light

When pearls are cultivated in the sea, they prefer room temperature and sunlight. Mature plants can also tolerate cold and partial shade. The seedlings planted in autumn will have new shoots and leaves growing in the summer of the following year.

Fertilization

The fertilization requirements are not high. When it is first planted, enough base fertilizer is needed to meet its growth requirements, and generally no topdressing is required. In the future, combined with winter management, base fertilizer can be applied once every 1-2 years.

prune

After the pearl bush flowers fade, the inflorescences turn yellow and wither, affecting the aesthetics. Therefore, the remaining inflorescences should be cut off to make the plants clean and tidy, and to avoid the remaining inflorescences competing with the plants for nutrients and water. In autumn or early spring, diseased and insect-infested branches and old and weak branches should be cut off, and annual branches can be heavily pruned to promote branch renewal and lush flowering and foliage.

Watering

Watering should be done in time during spring droughts. During summer and autumn droughts, water thoroughly to keep the soil moist. Watering should be done again before winter.
