When does freesia bloom?

When does it bloom?

Freesia is a common indoor ornamental flower in winter, so its flowering period is mostly in winter. Generally speaking, freesia is planted in autumn and will bloom in winter and spring. Of course, there are exceptions. Sometimes freesia will bloom in March and April. Generally speaking, the flowering period of freesia is from February to May.

When freesia blooms, the flowering period is generally about 15 days. The flower stem is single or branched, with spike-shaped flowers on the top, and each inflorescence has about 5-7 flowers. After flowering, it will bear fruit.

Factors affecting flowering time

Although the flowering period of freesia is between February and May, the specific flowering time is actually very irregular.

In fact, the irregular flowering period of freesia is mainly affected by the planting time of freesia, and also by the temperature and light of maintenance.

If the planting time is in August or September, the flowering time is generally in winter. If it is planted in autumn, it may bloom in winter and spring. In fact, the planting time is also affected by the region. In the northern region, freesia can be planted in September, while in the southern region it can be later.

The influence of temperature is mainly reflected in the differentiation of flower buds, because when the temperature is kept at a low temperature of 8℃-13℃, flower buds are easier to differentiate. If the temperature is lower than 18℃ during this period, the flowering period will be delayed. If the temperature is higher, it can bloom earlier, but the plant will easily weaken.

The influence of light mainly refers to the duration of light exposure. Under short-day conditions, freesia flower bud differentiation will be better. After the flower buds differentiate, long daylight exposure can also promote early flowering.
