Feeding and management of geese in winter

Feeding and management of geese in winter

Geese raised in winter have strong vitality, a short breeding cycle, low feed consumption and rapid weight gain. Normally, after about 2 months of feeding, the weight of each goose can reach 6 kg. Goose meat is sold on the market during the Spring Festival, with a high price and significant economic benefits. Let’s learn about the feeding and management of geese in winter.

1. Selected Goslings

Choose winter goose breeds that are large in size, fast in growth, and resistant to rough feed, and select goslings that are healthy and lively, have loud voices, and absorb egg yolk well.

2. Brooding in the greenhouse

Newborn winter geese should be raised in a greenhouse with a density of 8 to 12 per square meter. The feeding room should be connected to the greenhouse so that the goslings can move freely and eat. The temperature in the greenhouse needs to be adjusted in time according to the behavior of the goslings.

3. Feeding of goslings

Newborn goslings are first fed 0.05% potassium permanganate solution, with 5 ml of vitamin C, 16 ml of vitamin B, 5 grams of glucose and 3 grams of brown sugar added to every 100 ml. The solution is fed three times a day for five consecutive days. At the same time, fresh vegetable leaves are provided for the winter geese to eat freely, and they are fed every 2 hours. Winter geese aged 2 to 4 days should be fed with rice grains soaked in water, and winter geese aged 11 to 20 days should gradually transition to compound feed , feeding 5 to 6 times a day, 2 times at night, and appropriate grazing.

4. Chinese goose breeding

From 30 days of age until the main wing feathers grow out, winter geese are mainly grazed, with an appropriate amount of concentrated feed supplemented to ensure that they get adequate exercise. Choose areas with abundant grass for grazing so that the winter geese can eat fresh and abundant grass. Control the speed when grazing, let the geese take a bath before collecting them, and then drive them back to the pen after resting and feeding.

5. Fattening stage

After more than one month of feeding, when the winter geese's primary feathers have grown and their weight reaches 1.5 to 2 kg, they can be fed a high-energy, low-protein diet for 20 to 30 days of intensive fattening to reach 5 kg.

6. Launch and Sales

When the winter geese are fattened to the standard of plump subcutaneous fat, round tail vertebrae and chest, and transparent base of wing feathers, they can be put on the market for sale.

The above are the key points for raising and managing geese in winter. You can consider it based on local actual conditions. Not the temperature in all areas is suitable for raising winter geese.
