Cutting propagation of Dianthus

Cutting propagation of Dianthus

1. Cutting time

Its cutting propagation time is generally chosen after the flowering period of each year, approximately from December to April of the following year. The best time for cutting propagation is from January to February, because the branches at this time are very strong and the quality is very good. Cuttings at this time can control the dianthus to bloom in January of the following year and during the Spring Festival.

2. Soil for cuttings

Choosing the right soil for cuttings is the first step. Generally, garden soil is chosen. This kind of processed soil has more nutrients, and the branches are easy to survive after cuttings. In order to ensure better drainage and air permeability, a certain proportion of sandy soil is generally added to the mixture.

3. Selection of cuttings

In order to ensure smooth germination in the future, the selection of mother plants is most important. We need to choose plants that grow more normally, bloom more, and have slightly thicker branches. First, choose a branch that is growing well, and then choose a thick side bud from the middle, which is about three centimeters long. This completes the selection of the cutting branch.

4. Cutting method

After taking out the cuttings, you need to carry out cuttings. Insert the selected branch into the soil to about one-third of its total length. Be sure to water it after planting, just water it thoroughly, then move it to an environment of about thirteen degrees Celsius, and be sure to take care of it carefully in the later stage.

5. Management after cutting

Be sure to water the plants again on the second day after cuttings. If you find that the leaves on the branches are withered and softened, you can sprinkle water on the leaves to keep the planting soil slightly moist. If the sunlight is good, you can shade the plant slightly for about 15 days. If you take care of it carefully, you will find small roots growing from the cuttings in about 30 days, and after another month you can transplant them into another pot for maintenance.
