How to propagate crystal anthurium

How to propagate crystal anthurium

1. Cutting

Different varieties of anthurium have different propagation methods. This method can be used for upright varieties with stems. The best time is between spring and summer. First, cut anthuriums with one or two stem nodes and three or four leaves as cuttings, then insert them into sphagnum moss, wait for them to grow new roots and produce young plants, and then transplant them into pots.

2. Division

This method is suitable for the cooler and humid spring when you are preparing to repot. It can also be divided in the slightly cool autumn weather. Be careful not to divide the plants when it is too hot in the summer or when the weather is extremely cold and dry in the winter. Always remember not to damage the mother plant when dividing the buds. Side buds that are too large, too weak, or too close together cannot be divided. Choose side buds that are easier to separate from the mother plant, relatively strong or have at least two main root systems. Then use your hands to evenly separate the side buds from the mother plant. If it is difficult to separate by hand, use a sharp knife to cut the bud eyes. The knife must be disinfected before use. After the side buds are cut, wait for the wound to dry a little before transplanting them in a cool place. This can promote the recovery and growth of the wound. When planting, the roots must be spread out flat and the plant must be upright to provide the necessary support. Do not water it immediately after planting, but you can spray water on its leaves to keep it moist. After about two days, you can fertilize and water according to its situation.

3. Sowing

This method is generally used in breeding and is also the most common breeding method. Its advantages are that it is very simple and convenient, low cost, and easy to implement, but its breeding speed is relatively slow. Since it has poor natural pollination, artificial pollination is required to obtain seeds. The seeds of Anthurium are relatively large, so they should be sown in pots indoors. The temperature between 25℃ and 28℃ is more suitable for germination, and they will germinate in about 20 to 25 days.
