When and how to plant tomatoes

Tomato Planting Time

When planting tomatoes, the planting time can be reasonably arranged according to the climate and temperature changes in different regions. Tomatoes can be planted in spring around February to May, autumn and winter crops can be planted around July to September, and winter and spring crops can be planted from November to February of the following year.

Tomato Planting Methods

1. Site selection and soil preparation

Tomatoes do not have very high requirements for the land in which they grow. Generally, they grow in paddy fields with good ventilation conditions but not in windy places. Fertile, loose and flat soil is the most suitable environment. The soil should be plowed and drainage channels should be built.

2. Seed soaking and germination

Before planting, tomato seeds need to be soaked in warm water for about 1-2 hours. This will help break the seed dormancy and promote germination. Then soak them in warm water at about 50 degrees and stir constantly. After about 3-5 hours, they can be sown.

3. Planting treatment

Sow the treated seeds in the seedbed. It is best to sow about 30 grams per square meter. Do not sow too densely. The soil in the seedbed needs to be kept moist and the temperature needs to be controlled at around 22-28℃. They will germinate in about 3-4 days. When the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, you can start transplanting.

Tomato planting precautions

Tomatoes are fertilizer-loving plants. Before planting, apply sufficient base fertilizer, irrigate with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer during the growth period, apply seedling-promoting fertilizer during the seedling growth period, and use phosphorus or calcium acidic fertilizers during the flowering and fruiting period to promote vigorous flowering and fruiting. Watering should start from the roots to ensure that the roots and rhizomes absorb sufficient water.
