How to plant mulberry seeds

How to plant mulberry seeds

1. Seed collection

Fruits that can be used as seeds must be mature. Judging from the outdated color, after picking the dark purple mulberries, rub off the pulp, wash the remaining seeds, and they can be used for sowing. If sowing cannot be done in time, you can prepare sand and store it in moist sand.

2. Sowing time

The time is relatively flexible, it can be spring, summer or autumn, but the seeds sown in summer and autumn are generally fresh seeds picked that year, which have a high germination rate. In autumn, the seeds that were stored in the sand in the previous year are sown after overwintering.

3. Seed treatment

1. Prepare a basin of half-open warm water, about 50 degrees, and soak the seeds in the water. The water does not need to be kept at a constant temperature. Let the water cool naturally during the soaking process. After the water is completely cool, soak for another 12 hours.

2. After soaking, take out the seeds and place them in moist sandy soil for storage. This step is the beginning of germination. Use a watering can to spray water on it frequently to ensure that the sand is moist.

3. After a few days, check whether the seed coat is broken and white color is exposed, then you can sow the seeds.

4. Sowing Method

1. Find a piece of land with loose soil, good drainage and sufficient fertility, dig a ditch about one centimeter deep, control the row spacing to 20 to 30 centimeters, spray water on the soil surface until it is moist, sow the seeds and cover them with soil.

2. Seedlings will appear one to ten days after the seeds are planted.

5. Management

1. Thinning

Observe the growth of the seedlings, and thin them out when they grow to three or four centimeters. Pull out diseased and weak seedlings with poor growth momentum, and replant those with uneven spacing so that nutrients can be left for better plants. The distance between two seedlings should be between 10 cm and 15 cm. Once this is determined, you can transplant the seedlings.

2. Fertilization

During the seedling stage, pay attention to watering in time, and add fertilizer in time when the soil is not fertile enough. At the same time, pay attention to clearing the weeds in the field in time and dealing with pests and diseases. When applying fertilizer, pay attention to the medicine on the leaves and do not harm the silkworms that eat the leaves by spraying the medicine.
