How to grow apple mint

How to grow apple mint

1. Planting steps

1. Choose the type of propagation: Apple mint can be divided into cutting propagation and seed sowing. Because apple mint propagated by seeds not only grows slowly but is also prone to mutation and death, we generally use cuttings to propagate apple mint.

2. Choose the breeding time: We can choose spring or winter for sowing. Spring planting is generally in late March, and winter planting is generally in late October.

3. Seed preservation: Because too high a temperature can easily cause apple mint seeds to lack water and die, we should store the seeds in a cool place during the high temperatures in summer.

4. Loosen the soil: Before sowing, choose loose soil with good drainage and water the soil thoroughly before sowing apple mint.

5. Sowing seeds: When we sow seeds, we must pay attention to spreading them evenly. Because apple mint seeds are so small, there is no need to cover them with soil.

6. Spray water: After sowing, we can use a watering can to spray water on the seeds to keep the soil moisture suitable.

7. Insulation: In the early stage of sowing, we can choose to cover with plastic wrap for insulation. After the apple mint seeds germinate, we can remove the plastic wrap.

2. Maintenance

1. Soil selection: We choose loose, fertile, and well-drained sandy soil.

2. Planting: After the apple mint seeds grow five to six leaves, we can choose to plant them. We should first straighten the small apple mint seedlings and straighten its roots. Then, we need to fill the soil and compact it. Finally, water the soil thoroughly at once.

3. Top dressing: After the small apple mint seedlings have grown for a period of time, we can choose to apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer.

4. Water regulation: Continuous adjustment is required during the growth of apple mint seedlings. In the early stages of growth, apple mint seedlings require more water, while during the flowering period, apple mint seedlings require less water.

5. Sunlight: Apple mint seedlings need full light. If there is insufficient light, apple mint seedlings tend to grow too tall.
