Taboos on growing bougainvillea in winter

Taboos on growing bougainvillea in winter

1. Do not water too much:

Because this plant is afraid of cold, the lowest temperature it can tolerate is only 8 degrees, so in order to allow this plant to survive the cold winter smoothly, do not water it too much. In winter, it is generally kept in a place with higher temperatures. If the normal amount of watering is maintained as usual at this time, the plant will thrive due to the higher temperature and more suitable moisture. In this case, its own cold resistance will decrease, which is very bad for its growth. The last thing to note is that if watering is really necessary, it is best to use warm water.

2. No fertilizer can be applied:

Because this plant has particularly weak cold resistance, it is best to choose hibernation in winter to help it survive the winter smoothly. If you apply fertilizer at this time, it will promote its growth and reduce its ability to resist cold, so in winter, you should stop applying any fertilizer to it.

3. Ventilation and temperature reduction are necessary:

In winter, this plant is usually grown indoors. If the temperature indoors does not meet its requirements, it may have to be grown in a greenhouse. Therefore, when the sunlight is strong in winter, it is necessary to help ventilate it. And if the temperature where it is grown is found to be relatively high, appropriate cooling measures must be taken.

4. Do not move into the warm area too early, and do not move out of the warm area too late:

1. Time to move into a warm area. In the south, winter temperatures usually drop below 8 degrees starting in late November or early December, so at this time the potted plants should be moved indoors or to a warmer place. In the north, winter comes earlier, so you should move in early or mid-November.

2. Time to move out of the warm area. In the south, the temperature will start to rise in March, so you can move it out of the warm area depending on the weather conditions in March. However, in the north, the weather is more changeable and the winter lasts relatively long, so it is not advisable to move it out of the warm area in March. Once the plant is frozen, it will not be able to bloom during the flowering period. Therefore, it is best to move it out of the warm area in the north in late April and early May.
