How to grow Jianlan in winter

Temperature Management

Generally speaking, if the outdoor temperature drops to 2-3℃, the orchid should be moved indoors for maintenance. What needs attention is the timing of moving Jianlan indoors. If Jianlan is moved indoors too early, it will affect its growth and development, greatly reducing the amount of germination or even causing no flower buds, and the number of flowers blooming next year will be much less than before. If you enter the room too late or the indoor temperature is too low, it is easy for Jianlan to be frostbitten or even frozen to death. The temperature should not be lower than zero, so make sure to keep warm. Note that before moving Jianlan indoors, you must first carry out insect control and sterilization. This will eliminate insect eggs in advance to prevent Jianlan from being infested by insects the following year.

Moisture Management

Winter is the dormant period of Jianlan. The absorption capacity of the plant's roots is greatly reduced, and the growth slows down or even stops. Jianlan does not require much water in winter, so you should control the amount of watering, but you cannot stop watering. You can spray water frequently or water appropriately according to the situation to keep the soil in the pot moist. When growing Jianlan in winter, special attention should be paid to preventing root rot. When the weather is clear and warm, you can move it outdoors to bask in the sun. It should be noted that Jianlan cannot be placed in a room with large temperature differences, as large temperature fluctuations are not conducive to the growth of the plant.

Lighting Management

Jianlan likes light, but cannot accept long-term direct sunlight. It is best to place it in a place with sufficient scattered light for cultivation. When the sunlight is strong, pay attention to proper shading. If the temperature in winter is lower than 10℃, it can accept full sunlight appropriately, which is beneficial for Jianlan to promote the growth of new buds, and can also improve the plant's resistance and reduce the occurrence of diseases.

Ventilation

When Jianlan is grown indoors in winter, pay attention to air circulation and keep the room ventilated and breathable. When the weather is clear and the temperature is relatively high during the day, open the windows in time to ventilate and expel the turbid air in the room. In addition, orchids should not be grown near air conditioners. The roots of Jianlan are relatively strong, so in addition to maintaining indoor air circulation in winter, you should also pay attention to ensuring the air permeability of the soil.
