How to grow Dendrobium officinale at home

Propagation by division

Choose a vigorously growing plant among many Dendrobium officinale plants. After it finishes flowering, take it out of the pot and cut it from the base of the stem. Be careful to remove the old rhizomes and minimize damage to the root system. We can break the roots directly with our hands without cutting them with a knife. Treat the main plant as a group and cut off the surrounding old roots. How can new plants be formed? Place the new buds in the middle of the spray and continue to fill in new substrate.

Bud propagation

This situation applies to Dendrobium officinale that has been planted or potted for more than 3 years. If some Dendrobium officinale has small plants growing on the top of its stems, this method can also be used. How to choose small plants? It is best to have three or four leaves and two to three roots. After cutting it off from the mother plant, be careful to treat the wound. Just apply wood ash. When planting the plants in pots, be sure to plant them shallowly.

Cutting propagation

This method of propagation can be carried out together with repotting and division. Since the rhizome of Dendrobium officinale is thin and long, new buds can grow on each section of the stem, so this method is more suitable. When choosing branches, you should choose those that have not bloomed and cut them into several sections with two or three sections each. Be careful to treat the wound in the same way as for bud propagation. Insert the stem into the substrate, preferably a mixture of moss and peat. Do not insert it completely into the soil, leave half of it in the air. No watering is required within a week after cuttings, but attention should be paid to moisturizing, and spraying can be used. After one to two months, new buds will grow, and after 2 to 3 years, beautiful flowers will bloom.
