The shaping, pruning and flowering period control of Rhododendron chinense

1. Plastic surgery

When we take care of it, we all want it to bloom faster so that we can appreciate its beauty earlier. Generally, pinching is used to make it grow new branches quickly. Some flower branches may have relatively dense buds. In order not to affect the beauty of the flowers, you can thin out the buds appropriately. Doing this will greatly improve the quality and quantity of the flowers that bloom, and will also greatly help it bloom next year.

The germination ability of Rhododendron ovata is very strong. If there are too many branches, it will seriously affect the growth of the plant, and the ornamental effect will be greatly reduced. So at this time we need to do some plastic surgery to change this phenomenon. Pruning branches does not mean that you can do it at any time. It is usually done in spring after the flowers have faded or in autumn. Some diseased branches, dead branches, old branches and some forked branches on the plant should be cut off one by one. This can effectively avoid nutrient consumption and make the flowers of the plant bright and full.

2. Flowering period control

Rhododendron generally begins to differentiate flower buds in autumn. At this time, we can use some refrigeration and heating treatments to artificially control the flowering period.

If you want the azalea to bloom early, you can move it to the greenhouse for maintenance, keep the temperature between 20 and 25 degrees, and spray water on its branches and leaves frequently to maintain more than half the humidity. After a month, it will basically be able to bloom.

If you want the azalea to bloom later, let the plants that have formed buds stay in a relatively low temperature environment for a long time. As long as the temperature is maintained between 2 and 4 degrees, you can water it a little when the soil in the pot looks dry. In summer and autumn, you can move it outside the room. It will basically bloom after 2 weeks.
