How to propagate bird's tongue

Propagation by division:

1. Division time: The division of bird tongue orchid can generally be carried out in spring and autumn, and it can be divided about every 3 years.

2. Division process: Generally, plants that grow lush and strong and have dense pseudobulbs can be divided. After division, make sure that each cluster has more than 5 pseudobulbs connected together. When preparing for division, pay attention to reducing the frequency and amount of watering as much as possible, and just keep the soil in the pot moist.

3. After the division is completed, put the plants into the pots: Before putting them into the pots, spread a layer of broken tiles at the bottom hole of the pot, and then add a layer of coarse stones, which should occupy about 1/5 of the pot. Then put some coarse soil and a little fine soil on it. Use loose, fertile humus sandy soil for cultivation. Place the pseudobulbs to a depth that just submerges them in the soil. Reserve two centimeters at the edge of the flowerpot for some green cloud grass and gravel. Finally, water them plenty of times until the whole pot is soaked. Place it in a dark place for more than ten days. After that, try to water them less. As long as the soil in the pot is kept moist, normal maintenance will be fine.

Seed propagation:

1. Sowing instructions: Another method is sowing, but the seeds of the bird's tongue orchid are very small, and the seed coat is not easy to absorb water. There is only one underdeveloped embryo in the seed, which is difficult to germinate, so it will not germinate using the general method.

2. Sowing process: If you want to sow, you need to choose bird's tongue orchid fruits that have not cracked yet. You need to use artificial cultivation methods to provide nutrients. Sterilize the surface of the fruit with 75% alcohol, then take out the bird's tongue orchid seeds, soak them in 10% sodium hypochlorite for about 7 or 8 minutes, take them out, rinse them with clean water several times, and then sow them in the culture bottle.

3. Notes: Be sure to place it in a dark place without light, and keep the temperature at around 25°C. After the bird's tongue orchid sprouts, you can move it to the light and the protocorm will form.
