How do African violets spend the winter?

How do African violets spend the winter?

1. Lighting

African violets do not actually have very high requirements for light, because they do not like sunlight. Of course, they also need sunlight, but they do not need direct sunlight. However, there is very little sunlight in winter. At this time, we should consider the seasonal issue and let the African violets survive in a sunny place. The sunlight at this time will not be very poisonous, so the flowers of the African violets will bloom better. Do not place it in an extremely dark place, otherwise the flowers will wilt and the flowering period will be shortened.

2. Moisture

Like all plants, water is essential for African violets, but watering should be done in moderation. We cannot water too much or too little, so when watering, we can observe the soil in the pot. If the soil turns white, we can water it. In addition to this, we cannot let water get on the leaves of African violets, so we can use wax to protect it.

3. Temperature

Temperature is a very important thing for African violets. The temperature range that suits them is not very large, which means that if you don’t pay attention to keeping warm in winter, African violets are easy to die. At night, we cannot let the temperature of African violets be below ten degrees Celsius, otherwise it will freeze.

4. Humidity

The humidity requirement of African violets is actually relatively high. It prefers a humid environment, so if the air is relatively dry it will not be good for its growth. Winter happens to be relatively dry, so we should increase the air humidity appropriately. Generally speaking, the air humidity between 40% and 70% is better.

5. Fertilizer

African violets have relatively high requirements for fertilizer, and the effect of fertilizer on it is related to light. If it is winter, the light will not be very strong, and fertilizing at this time will not have any effect, so you can consider only applying base fertilizer without considering applying topdressing. In this way, African violets will bloom and survive normally.
