How to care for newly bought periwinkle

How to care for newly bought periwinkle

1. Soil

When growing vinca, you must prepare loose and breathable soil. You can add perlite and other materials to the soil to make it more breathable. If the soil that comes with the plant is of good quality, you do not need to change the soil when you repot. If the soil is too poor, you can replace it with the soil you prepared when you repot. Just be careful not to damage the roots.

2. Lighting

When you just buy it, you must give it plenty of sunlight, otherwise it will grow very quickly after adapting to the environment, and the branches will grow very long. If there is not enough sunlight, its internodes will be very large. It is easy to have problems such as lodging and breaking.

3. Watering

Don't rush to water it when you first buy it, but after it adapts to the environment, it must not lack water. Once it lacks water, its leaves will wilt. Although it can recover directly after watering, this will affect its root system. If it happens too many times, it will cause root rot. When watering, just water it thoroughly when the soil in the pot is almost dry.

4. Fertilization

Don't rush to fertilize when you just buy it. When the vinca blooms and grows, be sure to add fertilizer in time. Adequate fertilizer can prevent accelerated growth and ensure continuous flowering. Add fertilizer two to three times a month, and it is best to use multi-element compound fertilizer.

5. Pruning

After buying it, you need to constantly top it when it starts to grow. If you don't top it, it will not produce more side buds. Because the flowers bloom from the buds at the top of the branches. When it grows to a certain length, cut it off in time to allow it to continue to grow side buds. The more side buds that come out, the more flowers will bloom.
