After learning these tricks, are you still worried that hyacinths will not bloom?

1. Planting

Hydroponic hyacinth

1. Cut off the withered roots

After receiving the bulbs, first remove the dead roots of the bulbs. Failure to remove them will cause the root plate to absorb water and cause the bulbs to rot. Whether pulling or cutting, be careful not to damage the root plate. Many people are troubled by the question of whether to remove the skin or not. The principle is to remove it as little as possible. If there are mildew spots, wipe them off, and the dry skin can be torn off. 2. Use carbendazim to remove germs

Because most of the hyacinths in my country are imported, the transportation time is relatively long, and mold invasion is inevitable. It is recommended that you first disinfect and sterilize the bulbs to prevent mildew and rot. Carbendazim is mixed at a ratio of 1:1000. In layman's terms, one bag of carbendazim is mixed with 1000ml of water. After stirring evenly with a stick; soak the cleaned bulbs in the carbendazim solution for about half an hour, then place the bulbs in a cool and ventilated place and dry them for 24 hours. Note: When using carbendazim, please keep a portion for later use. There may still be mold later, which is normal. At this time, you can use cotton cloth or cotton swab dipped in carbendazim solution to wipe the moldy parts. 3. Potting hyacinth

Place the hyacinth bulbs in a prepared container, making sure there is about 3 cm of space between the bottom of the hyacinth and the water. Direct access to water can cause hyacinth bulbs to rot. The water level is marked with a red line in the picture above. 4. Shading during the rooting period

When hyacinths are just planted in the pot, they should be protected from light. That is, the bulbs and the vase should be placed in a dark place without sunlight. You can wrap the transparent part of the bottle with plastic bags, newspapers, etc. It is recommended to block light for 15-20 days and keep the temperature at around 9-10 degrees. Change the water every 5 days and every 7 days after roots grow. After the roots grow, add about 5 drops of nutrient solution each time you change the water to promote healthier growth of the plants. Of course it’s okay without it, it can still grow well. 5. Sunbathing during the leaf growth period

After the hyacinth has passed the light-avoiding period, it needs sufficient sunlight to promote the growth of leaves. Otherwise, the plant will easily grow too tall, and in severe cases it will not bloom. During this period, the roots of the hyacinth have grown very long, so be especially careful not to damage the roots every time you change the water. When changing the water, just lift the ball slightly and let the water flow out through the gap. When adding water, just pour the water in slowly through the gap. 6. Maintenance during the growth and flowering period

It takes about 50-60 days from planting hyacinth to flowering. Flowering requires sufficient light. When the flower buds grow to 5-8cm high (about 8-12 weeks), the vase can be placed in a warm environment. The optimum temperature is 15-21 degrees. After the hyacinth flower stalks grow tall and bloom, expose them to less sunlight so that the flowering period will be longer. Exposing them to sunlight too often after flowering will accelerate the withering of the flowers and excessive consumption of nutrients. After the hyacinth flowers have faded and withered, you can cut off the roots, let them dry for two days, put them in a net bag and hang them on the balcony before planting them in autumn. 7. Hydroponic vessel selection and precautions

1. Hydroponics is convenient and hygienic. All you need is a cup. The mouth of the cup should not be too big and should be able to support the sphere. A professional hydroponic bottle is of course the best, but a hydroponic basket is also good. 2. About side buds. Most plants reproduce by seeds, but hyacinths reproduce vegetatively, by dividing bulbs to produce the next generation. It is normal for hyacinths to have side buds (bulbs) in this season. I personally suggest that novices can wipe off the side buds and completely discard them, because given our domestic climate environment, it is almost impossible to cultivate a hyacinth bulb into a flowering bulb in a natural environment.

3. Regarding the water surface position, hyacinths are more prone to rot, so when hydroponically cultivating, the water should not submerge the bulb, and there must be a 5mm gap between the bulb and the water surface. 4. About low temperature treatment. Before hydroponics, you can put the hyacinth in the refrigerator's safe compartment for refrigeration and wait for 2 weeks before taking it out for planting. Because when it moves from a cold place to a warm place, the hyacinth will think that spring has come and will start to take root and sprout. 5. Regarding water changes, it is not recommended unless the water shows signs of turbidity. 6. Regarding fertilizer, when there is nitrogen fertilizer in the water, never let the water see sunlight! It will grow algae and damage the roots of hyacinth!

Soil culture hyacinth

1. Prepare tools

A flower pot, nutrient soil (if you don't have it, you can use ordinary soil instead), carbendazim, a basin

2. Peeling and disinfection

Peel off the old skin of the hyacinth bulbs you bought, add a lot of carbendazim disinfectant according to the ratio on the packaging bag, scrape off or wipe off the moldy parts of the hyacinth, and put them into the carbendazim solution for disinfection. Soak for about 1 to 2 hours. Then take out the hyacinth and place it in a cool place to dry, and then you can put it in a pot. 3. Put it in the basin

First fill the flowerpot halfway with soil, then put the hyacinth in, and continue to fill it with soil until only the tip of the hyacinth is exposed.

4. Watering

After potting, you need to water it, but don't water it too much. If there is too much water, the roots of the hyacinth will rot. According to the flowerpot in the picture above, you only need to use half a cup of water like the one in the picture below!

5. Shading treatment

Whether it is hydroponically grown or soil-grown, hyacinths will take root in a dark environment. Therefore, find a large, light-proof container to cover the entire hyacinth pot. It will take about a month for the hyacinth to take root successfully.

6. Post-processing

① Watering. Do not water too much in the later stage. Watering too much when the hyacinth has not yet taken root will easily cause the roots to rot. Just water it with a small cup of water once a week. The growth and flowering of hyacinth mainly depends on the nutrients and water stored in the sphere. ② Fertilization. If you are using nutrient soil, then you don’t need to fertilize for the time being. If you feel that the nutrients in the soil you are using are not enough, you can use granular fertilizer, which is more convenient, but there must be soil between the fertilizer and the bulbs. In addition, fertilization is not recommended for beginners.

2. Maintenance & Precautions

Avoiding Arrow Traps

Before planting, low temperature treatment should be carried out for about a month to greatly reduce the possibility of hyacinth arrows being pinched. According to Huahua's experiment, early refrigeration is very effective~

After the leaves have grown to 10cm to 12cm high, start placing them in a place with scattered light and basking in the sun. When the flower arrow reaches 15cm high, you can take it outside to bask in the sun. At this time, the flower arrow will continue to grow taller.

Water level treatment

After the roots grow out, the water level should be lowered along with the length of the roots to leave enough space for air convection. This is very, very important. If the water surface is still in contact with the chassis after the roots grow out, the bulb and roots will not get oxygen over time and will rot.

Root treatment

Shading and low temperature treatment: Cover part of the hydroponic container with old newspapers or something like that. At the same time, the temperature should be kept between 12 and 18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the roots of hyacinth to continue to grow longer and longer. In its place of origin, the rhizome of hyacinth can grow to about 50cm!

Avoid tilting your head

Hyacinths are also phototropic, so after they bloom, it is best to rotate the pots regularly to prevent them from growing crooked. If it has grown crooked, you can secure it with a rope to prevent it from breaking in the end. As shown in the picture below, tie two hyacinths with their heads tilted to the sides together.

Water exchange

As mentioned above, if the water has not become turbid, there is no need to change the water. However, there is always a chance of disaster. If the water becomes turbid, you must change the water. 1. Lift up the side with fewer roots to create a hole for water to flow through.

2. Pour out half of the water, then shake it a few times and pour out the rest immediately. Be careful not to pour water on the ball during the whole process.

3. When filling the water, it is better to go slowly rather than let the ball get wet, especially without splashing water. Be careful not to overfill the water level. 4. Cut the toilet paper into small strips (tear or fold them), and wipe the inner wall of the bottle and any water that accidentally gets on the ball. This is to avoid accidentally breaking the roots of the hyacinths after picking them up. If there are few roots, you can just take them out and change the water.

3. Post-flowering treatment

Hydroponic hyacinth

After the hydroponic hyacinth blooms, the nutrients in the bulbs are almost exhausted, so it is rare for it to bloom again the next year. However, if you plant it in the soil in time after it blooms, it can still grow into a bulb that can bloom next year.

The leaves of potted hyacinths will slowly wither after flowering. The dead leaves should be cut off, the bulbs should be dug out and placed in a cool and dry place. When the temperature reaches 15°C in mid-July, it can be placed in the refrigerator to prevent rotting. Take it out at the end of September, plant it in a pot filled with ordinary culture soil, and put a few grains of compound fertilizer at the bottom of the pot. Then place it on the balcony and let it experience natural low temperature for at least 5-7 weeks, during which time keep the soil in the pot moist.

30-40 days before the Spring Festival, move the plant into a well-lit place indoors and water it frequently to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. The room temperature should be around 20℃. When the temperature is high, you should water more often. When the temperature is low, you should try to increase the temperature so that the plants can bloom again during the Spring Festival. A flowering bulb can be cultivated in this way for about 2-3 years.

Soil-grown hyacinth

After hyacinth blooms in March and April, the above-ground parts turn yellow in June. The bulbs can be dug up, ventilated for several days, and stored in a dry and cool place.

If planted in a place with good drainage and no water accumulation even after continuous rain in summer, the bulbs can be left to oversummer in the soil without being dug up. Wait until the weather gets cold in October and then plant it in the soil (about 5 cm deep). It will grow leaves and bloom in early spring next year.
