Outdoor management of roses in winter

Outdoor management of roses in winter

1. Pruning

Winter is the most dislike season for most plants. In this season, their branches tremble and leaves fall from tree after tree, and the cold wind breaks their branches one by one. In winter, if you don't pay attention to pruning the branches of plants, in addition to being troubled by the cold wind, various diseases will attack the plants. In winter, the dead branches of the rose must be pruned, and then the crossed branches, branches attacked by pests and diseases, and overlapping branches should be cut off. After that, the branches that are not growing well should be pruned. If it is a plant that is growing very well, you can consider cutting half of its main trunk. Plants that are growing very well can be pruned lightly. Of course, cutting also requires skills. One-knife cutting is the best way. After cutting, you can consider spraying lime sulfur.

2. Fertilization

If you want to apply fertilizer, you can apply fertilizer around the outside of the land where it lives, adding about half a pound of fertilizer. Of course, you can also consider using chicken and duck manure and pond sludge. If it is a potted plant, you need to clean up some dead branches and leaves, and then put about 100 grams of fertilizer in the lower middle of the pot.

3. Antifreeze

Because the temperature is too low, the rose must be treated to prevent frost in winter. The plant can be placed in a sheltered place, but of course it also needs to be allowed to survive in a place where sunlight is exposed. In addition, you can also build a protective film for the roses, and be careful to prevent the pots and soil from freezing. If ice forms, the growth of the roses in the second year may be affected. Roses need to survive in an environment above five degrees Celsius.

4. Cuttings

In winter, some roses that are easier to germinate and take root can be propagated by cuttings. During the process, pay attention to cold protection and cover them with straw mats. In the spring of the following year, you can carry out appropriate follow-up treatments, and its roots will grow better.
