Taboos for growing clematis in winter

Taboos for growing clematis in winter

1. Don’t set the temperature too high

In winter, clematis will enter a dormant state when the temperature is between 0 and 10 degrees. In winter, we must control the temperature within this range and not let the temperature be too high, so that it can grow well. In fact, it is also very cold-resistant and will be fine even at minus 25 degrees Celsius. Except for potted plants in North China, which need to be wrapped with some foam or plastic cloth to keep them warm, nothing else is necessary.

2. Don’t water too much

When the temperature has not yet dropped below zero, watering is generally no different from other seasons, except that it does not need to be watered when it is not dry. But don't water it too much, otherwise it will be most likely to cause root rot in winter. We can put our fingers into the soil to a depth of 4 to 5 cm. If it feels very moist, there is no need to water it. When the winter is about to freeze, whether it is a potted plant or a ground plant, it is necessary to water it with freezing water at this time, and water it thoroughly at once. After that, do not water it again until spring. So remember this in winter, don't water too much.

3. Don’t apply too much fertilizer

Generally, in order to make their clematis grow better, many people would want to add more fertilizer to it, but this is actually wrong. We must stick to dilute fertilizers and apply them frequently so that it can grow better. There are many types of clematis, and many of them are very intolerant of fertilizer. In addition, winter is generally the best season to apply fertilizer. At this time, we only need to apply it once a month, so that we can take care of it for several months without applying fertilizer again. Also remember not to use too concentrated fertilizer. It is best to use some dilute and thin fertilizer so that it can grow in winter.
