When is the highest survival rate for sunflower cuttings? How many days should the cuttings be exposed to the sun?

1. Cutting time

If you want a high survival rate for sunflower cuttings, you should choose between May and August. This period is the stage of vigorous growth of the plant, and the cut cuttings have strong germination ability and are easier to take root. Moreover, the temperature and humidity during this period are very suitable for it, which is beneficial to rooting, can increase the possibility of survival, and is also convenient for management after planting.

2. Cutting method

1. Take cuttings: Choose healthy cuttings that are free of diseases and pests. Cut it into small sections of about 5 cm, not too short, otherwise there will be fewer side buds and the later flowering effect will be poor. After cutting, place the wound in a cool place to dry for later use.

2. Prepare the soil: The substrate for cuttings should be loose, fertile and transparent. You can mix it yourself with peat soil, garden soil and sand. Before use, expose it to strong light for disinfection. Or use carbendazim to disinfect to prevent insect eggs or bacteria from entering.

3. Insert the cuttings into the soil: Once the soil is prepared, you can insert the cuttings into it. When inserting, first poke a small hole in the soil surface and then put the cuttings in. Pay attention to the insertion depth, about two centimeters into the soil is enough. Too deep will affect rooting.

3. Maintenance after insertion

After cuttings, water them thoroughly in time. Don't rush to expose them to the sun. Place them in a ventilated and cool place to let the seedlings recover for two or three days. During this period, you should spray water frequently to keep it moist. On the fourth day, move it to a bright place to let it bask in the sun. Generally, it will take root about half a month after planting.
