How to fertilize hosta, so that the flowers can be bigger!

The degree of fertilizer required

This plant has relatively high requirements. In daily cultivation, in addition to using an appropriate amount of fertilizer, it also has certain requirements for the fertility of the soil itself. Therefore, if you want the plants to thrive and bloom beautiful flowers, you must pay more attention to nutrients.

What fertilizer to use

They are not very strict about the type of fertilizer, and general liquid fertilizer is sufficient. However, attention should be paid to the balance of various elements, and also attention should be paid to which elements should be focused on in different periods.

How to deal with different stages

The first thing to talk about is of course its most vigorous growth period, which starts around the beginning of May. This stage is the most important one and we must take good care of it. During this period, we generally apply a lighter concentration of liquid fertilizer every week to ten days.

By the end of September, you should slowly stop fertilizing. In winter, there is no need to apply fertilizer.

Next, let’s talk about how to deal with it during its flowering period. Before it blooms, you can use some fertilizer containing more N, and it would be better if it contains a small amount of P. This is a kind of fertilizer for the plants, which is beneficial to the density of its flowers and the glossiness of its leaves, thus achieving our ornamental purpose.

Precautions

The concentration of fertilizer can be controlled according to time. Generally speaking, the fertilizer should be diluted in May and June, and the concentration can be increased appropriately in July and August.

After each fertilization, we should water the plants and loosen the soil to make it more breathable.

You can add fertilizer before and after the plants bloom, but you should still add some N fertilizer after flowering.
