How to propagate Salvia miltiorrhiza

How to propagate Salvia miltiorrhiza

Root division

The Salvia miltiorrhiza used for planting is dug out of the ground on the day of planting. The stem is 0.3 cm wide and has disease-free annual lateral roots. It can be planted in April. But it is not absolute. It is also possible to start planting in October. When planting, please note that each root strip should be folded into 4-6cm root segments, and you can fold them while planting.

Data shows that if you use the head and tail of the roots for planting, the seedlings will emerge faster. If you use the middle part of the roots for planting, the seedlings will not emerge as quickly. So in order to be more uniform, you have to plant these two parts separately. This makes management more convenient!

After planting, the soil should be turned over immediately and the thickness of the soil should be about 1.5 cm. After the operation is completed, you must also pay attention to keeping warm. You can cover it with a layer of straw.

Cuttings

Everyone is familiar with this method, but you still need to pay attention to the specific details of the operation. The choice of time is very important. The best time is June and July, when the temperature is just right for their growth. Choose their above-ground stems, each section should be about 12cm long, cut off half of the leaves at the bottom, and insert them as you go.

You don't need to bury a lot of it in the soil, about 6cm is enough. After the whole operation is completed, you must pay attention to blocking the sunlight and watering it with sufficient water. When the roots grow two or three centimeters, they can be transplanted normally. After transplanting, you should also pay attention to maintenance to avoid diseases and insects.

sowing

If using seeds for planting, friends in the north can choose to do it in April. This step is very simple. After putting it in the soil, just cover it with a little soil and give it some water. At this time, it is necessary to ensure the moisture of the soil. It is best to cover them with a thin layer of plastic cloth so that they can be transplanted in September.
