Seed propagation

Seed selection

There are many ways to propagate ivy. Let’s first talk about seed propagation.

Every autumn is the time when the fruits of the ivy are ripe. When the color changes from green to purple, they can be picked. After being washed and dried, the seeds are disinfected and stored in moist sand.

In the spring of next year, in March, you can take it out and soak it in warm water for two days. After drying, mix it in a ratio of two parts sand to one part seeds, then place it in a sunny but poorly ventilated environment, spray the surface of the sand frequently, and you can sow it in about twenty days.

Soften the prepared soil and evenly place it into the container. Water it to ensure there is enough moisture. Sprinkle the mixed seed sand on it. One difference from other plants is that a layer of humus must be covered on the seed sand, and then a small plastic film shed must be made to promote germination.

Cutting propagation method

branch

The best time to select branches is in June and July in summer. Some branches that are neither too tender nor too old should be cut to a length of at least ten centimeters, but not too long. The branches are not selected from the top part, but the middle part, so the upper end is cut horizontally and the lower end is cut obliquely.

Soak the branches in rooting powder for less than an hour before burying them in the soil. After cutting, ensure water supply and topdressing management.

The above are the two simplest ways to propagate ivy. Flower lovers, learn them quickly and you will have shade next year.
