How to grow chicory

soil

Chicory is suitable for an environment with loose and fertile soil, preferably neutral to acidic soil. Organic fertilizer should be applied before sowing, and the soil should be leveled and ground, and weeds should be removed. The top layer of soil needs to be compacted.

sowing

There are three main ways to sow seeds: row sowing, seedling raising and root cutting. As long as the temperature is above 5 degrees, you can sow the seeds. If you sow in rows, you must first mix the seeds with fine sand. The sowing depth is generally 1 to 2 centimeters. When using this method, make sure the soil is moist and don't cover it too much. When raising seedlings, first water the soil, then mix the fine sand and seeds, sprinkle them on the seedlings, put 1 to 2 cm of wood ash, and keep the soil moist. When the plant has about 6 leaves, it is time to transplant it. At this time, you need to remove 4/5 of the leaves and then water it in time. The root cutting method is to divide the fleshy chicory root into 2 cm small sections, and then wait for seedlings to emerge and transplant.

Maintenance

About five days after sowing, the seedlings will generally be all grown. It should be noted that fertilizer should be applied in time after emergence. Generally, nitrogen fertilizer and urea are used to help the young plants grow quickly. Chicory is afraid of waterlogging, so it is necessary to drain the water in time to prevent the formation of waterlogging. Remember to fertilize and water after each harvest to ensure the continued growth of chicory.
