Should autumn beans be planted before or after the beginning of autumn?

Everyone is familiar with autumn beans , which generally refer to beans harvested in autumn. They are seasonal vegetables in autumn and are very popular. If you want to plant autumn beans, should you plant them before the beginning of autumn or after autumn? Let’s learn more about it below.

Should autumn beans be planted before or after the beginning of autumn?

The planting time for autumn beans is between one week before the beginning of autumn and the beginning of autumn. The temperature during this period is favorable for the growth of autumn beans. The best growing temperature for autumn beans is 25-28 degrees. August to September every year, which is around the beginning of autumn, is exactly in this temperature range, making it more suitable for growing autumn beans. However, due to the vast territory of China, the large span between the north and the south, and the differences in climate, the planting time of autumn beans must also be combined with the local temperature. The earliest should not be earlier than mid-July and the latest should not be later than October.

Things to note when planting autumn beans

1. Variety selection

For autumn beans, you should choose varieties that are heat-resistant in the seedling stage and relatively cold-resistant in the middle and late growth stages, such as Longcui 801, Qiujiang 512, Yitongjiangshan, Changhong No. 3, etc.

2. Reduce planting density

During the entire growth period of autumn beans, except for the early stage when the temperature is high and there is sufficient light intensity, as the temperature drops, the sunshine time decreases. Insufficient light in the middle and late stages of growth can easily cause photosynthesis and nutrient deficiency. If the planting is too dense, some pests are more likely to hide, which will also hinder the timely prevention and control of diseases and pests.

3. Apply fertilizer in time

During the autumn bean seedling stage, appropriate topdressing fertilizer can be applied to promote seedling growth, and about 20 kilograms of diammonium phosphate can be used per mu of land. However, after entering the pod-setting period, the input of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be increased, and the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied should be appropriately reduced to prevent the beans from growing too tall and affecting pod setting.

4. Pest and disease prevention

During the growth period of autumn beans, some diseases and insect pests in the fields will invade and migrate to harm the autumn beans. It is necessary to make good insect forecasts and control the diseases and insect pests in the early stages.
