Seed propagation of lilac

The general method of propagation of lilac is sowing. Let’s take a look at the steps of sowing.

Seed collection

First, you need to choose a lilac tree with a lush crown and a thick trunk as the mother tree for seed collection. The seed collection time is from late September to early October. After picking, beat the fruits with a stick, put them in a clean bag and place them in a dry and ventilated place.

Seed treatment

In the second year, soak the seeds in 800 times diluted 75% Benomyl wettable granules for about 3 hours for disinfection, then wash them repeatedly with tap water several times, soak them in 40℃ warm water for two days, then take out the seeds, mix them with wet river sand in a ratio of 1:3, put them in a sack for temperature change treatment, water them in time, turn them over once a day, and start sowing when the seed germination rate reaches about 40%.

sowing

Sowing begins in mid-May. Before sowing, the soil should be disinfected using 75% chlorothalonil wettable granules. Cover the soil in time after sowing, with a thickness of about 0.5%, cover it with straw mats, keep the soil moist, and water it in time.

Management of seedlings

About 40 days after sowing, the seedlings begin to grow. After emerging from the soil, the seedlings are relatively weak. You can spray them with 1000 times diluted 75% Benomyl wettable granules once and start loosening the soil. Weeding and other work. In late autumn, cover with straw mats to keep warm, and change the beds in February or April.
