Growing techniques of bougainvillea

Bougainvillea is a plant that blooms profusely. However, in the actual maintenance process, many people find that it only blooms once or twice a year, or some may not bloom at all. In fact, it takes certain skills to care for bougainvillea. As long as you choose the right variety and meet its growing conditions, bougainvillea can easily bloom beautiful flowers. Let’s learn the cultivation techniques of Bougainvillea together.

1. Temperature

Temperature is very important for bougainvillea to bloom luxuriantly. It can be said that the higher the temperature, the better the flowering and the brighter the color. Bougainvillea is a typical heat-loving plant. Low temperatures may result in poor flower color or even no flowering. When the temperature is below 10 degrees, the leaves of Bougainvillea will gradually turn yellow and fall off; when the temperature is below 0 degrees, most of the Bougainvillea may freeze to death. When caring for it at home, make sure the temperature is no lower than 15 degrees to ensure its normal growth and flowering. Summer is the period when bougainvillea blooms most vigorously, so the appropriate temperature must be maintained.

2. Potting soil

In order to make bougainvillea grow well and bloom more, you should use small pots and soil with good air permeability. Large pots have more soil, which dries slowly after watering, and absorbs too much water, which will affect the flowering performance. Similar problems can occur when using soil with poor aeration. Caring for bougainvillea requires the soil to dry and moisten quickly, so that it feels a sense of crisis, thus prompting it to continue to grow flower buds and bloom. Therefore, you should use small pots, pots and soil with good air permeability, and water the potting soil thoroughly after it is dry. In this way, the bougainvillea will not easily fail to bloom.

3. Lighting

Bougainvillea is a strong sun-loving flower . In order for it to continue blooming and not grow too tall, it must be guaranteed to receive sufficient light. Give it more than 10 hours of light every day and the bougainvillea will continue to bloom. If there is not enough light in your home, try to keep the light exposure time at least 6 hours. The weaker the light, the more you need to control the moisture, and try to place it in a well-lit place. If the light exposure is more than 10 hours, Bougainvillea will bloom even if the water is not controlled.

4. Fertilization

Bougainvillea needs a lot of fertilizer to grow and bloom. When using small pots for maintenance, if you do not apply fertilizer regularly, the nutrients will be exhausted, and the bougainvillea will have yellow leaves and stunted seedlings and will not bloom. Fertilizers should be high in phosphorus and not lacking in other elements, because phosphorus promotes flowering, and other elements ensure growth and root development, while continuously producing flower buds. Choosing the right fertilizer is important.

5. Watering

Bougainvillea is relatively drought-tolerant. During the maintenance process, pruning and topping should be carried out frequently to avoid excessive growth. Proper water control helps conserve nutrients for flowering. Water control is usually carried out from June to August every year. The plants are not watered for several consecutive days to allow them to wilt slightly. Water it lightly at night and the leaves will recover the next day. After a few more days of drought, water again. Repeat this water control for about a month.

As long as you ensure sufficient sunlight, water thoroughly when dry, control water appropriately, and prune branches frequently to prevent excessive growth, Bougainvillea will be able to produce more and more beautiful flowers.

In fact, it is relatively simple to cultivate bougainvillea . You only need to do the above points and the bougainvillea will bloom beautiful flowers.
