A few varieties of water lilies can be propagated by cuttings using adventitious buds on the leaves, which can be done in spring and autumn.

Cuttings

When choosing adventitious buds for cutting propagation, select mature and strong leaves, and turn the leaves upside down to separate them from the mother plant. The petiole should be in contact with the water surface, and the adventitious buds should be picked after they grow out from the center of the petiole.

Farming methods

Fill the flowerpot with field soil or clay soil, water it thoroughly and then apply a small amount of organic fertilizer, or put in a small amount of American sand before inserting the cuttings.

You can also place the cuttings in a pot with mud and water, press the leaves upside down into the water, press soil around them, the adventitious buds should face upwards, and the leaves should be immersed in water.

Water lilies like strong light very much, so they should be planted in a place that can get half sun or more. Organic fertilizer should be applied once a year, and the roots can be trimmed and the soil changed after two or three years.
