How to repot and prune the roots of roses

How to repot and prune the roots of roses

Steps for repotting and root pruning of roses

Remove from the pot and wash the roots

First, take the rose plant out of the pot. You can tilt the pot, hold the plant with one hand, and knock the pot with the other hand to take out the plant and the soil together. Then, soak it in water, remove the soil and wash it clean.

Root pruning

After cleaning the roots of the rose, you can prune it, mainly pruning away excess roots, and some rotten roots, diseased roots, roots with insect eggs, old roots, etc.

Some of the thicker or longer roots on the rose can also be cut off, because such roots will consume a lot of nutrients. They can be cut off, so that new roots can sprout.

In addition, some messy roots should be properly trimmed and combed. However, when pruning the roots, be careful not to prune too much, as this will inhibit the growth of the plant.

Disinfection

After pruning the roots of the rose, it is necessary to disinfect it to avoid infection of the wound. Disinfection is very simple. Soak the pruned roots of the rose in potassium permanganate solution for 2-3 hours. After disinfection, you can plant it in the pot.

Prepare potting soil

The first thing to do when planting roses in pots is to prepare the soil. It is generally better to use mixed soil, which can be made with fine sand, humus, peat soil, perlite, etc., and add a little organic fertilizer as fertilizer.

After preparing the soil, you can start potting. First put some soil in the pot, put the rose plant in the pot, and then fill it with soil. Make sure to compact the soil and then place it in a bright and ventilated place for maintenance.
