Preparation of nutrient soil for ornamental pumpkins

You can choose to use pond mud or garden soil that has never been used to grow melons. After drying, disinfecting and crushing it, mix it with peat soil, perlite, river sand and other substrates, and then add compound fertilizer to make nutrient soil. Place the coarse grains at the bottom of the pot, filling only 3/4 of the pot with soil.

25 degrees is the suitable temperature for the growth of ornamental pumpkins. Spring and autumn are the sowing seasons. The seeds must be soaked and germinated before sowing. Wrap the seeds with clean gauze and soak them in 30-degree warm water for 4-5 hours. Wash the seeds clean and then pick them up for germination. After watering the nutrient soil thoroughly, start sowing the seeds. It is appropriate to plant 3-4 seeds per pot. After sowing, the depth of soil should be 1 cm, and the seeds should be watered.

Planting ornamental pumpkins in pots

Choose a flowerpot of suitable size. When planting the plants, spread a small amount of river sand on the bottom of the pot, add an appropriate amount of sesame paste residue as base fertilizer, fill in nutrient soil, compact the soil after planting the plants, and water them thoroughly.

For ornamental pumpkins, top the plant when it grows to about 15 cm to promote the development of branches. Top the branches again when they grow to 10 cm in height. Usually 3-4 times of topping are required. When the plant grows to 25-30 cm, a trellis should be built to guide the vines. The materials can be bamboo or iron branches. When the leaves are too dense, they should be picked to allow ventilation, enhance light, and make the plant shape beautiful.
