How to prune the bone red plum blossom bonsai

Pruning time for red plum blossoms

The bone red plum blossom needs to be pruned several times a year, mainly during the seedling stage and after the flowering period. The purpose of pruning is to reduce nutrient consumption, bloom better, make its appearance more beautiful, and improve its ornamental value.

How to prune the red plum blossom

1. Pruning during the seedling stage

The pruning of the Bulrushet should be done from the seedling stage. When the seedlings grow to about 20-25 cm, the top branches can be cut off. This can inhibit the top growth, promote the growth of side branches, and promote the fullness of the plant.

Observe the growth status of the plant, leave 3-5 branches from the plant as the main branches, pinch them when they grow to 10-15 cm, and when the side branches grow to a certain length, pinch and prune again. Multiple pinching and pruning can increase the number of branches, increase the number of flower buds, and promote flowering.

2. Pruning after flowering

Half a month after the flowering of the red bone plant ends, it needs to be pruned. In addition to cutting off the withered flowers, some messy branches should also be removed, such as long branches, crossed branches, overlapping branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, and weak branches, so that the main branches can be retracted.

Cut off some of the annual branches, leaving the buds, to promote the formation of more flower branches, which will help the next flowering. Also, take advantage of this pruning to shape the plant to make it more ornamental as a whole.
