Pepper is a vegetable crop grown in many areas. Proper pruning of pepper can increase yield by 15% to 20%. Let’s learn about the time, location, methods and measures for pruning peppers. 1. Pruning time Pepper pruning is done in the hot summer season, generally from late July to mid-August. At this time, the first batch of fruits have been picked and the plants are in the resting stage where the temperature difference between day and night is not large, so pruning has the best effect on increasing yield. 2. Pruning location The peppers should be pruned at the top of the four main branches, and the eight side branches should be cut off in time. When the hot season comes, the four main branches will grow into eight side branches. Too dense branches and leaves will result in smaller fruits, and the fruits will fall off and rot, which will induce various diseases. The side branches need to be pruned off in time to concentrate the fertility on the four large branches, avoiding nutrient loss while improving the ventilation conditions of the plant. 3. Pruning method You can use scissors or pruning knives to cut off branches and leaves that grow too slowly or poorly. When pruning, you should also cut off branches that are seriously damaged by pests and diseases, drooping branches that bear too much fruit prematurely, and broken branches that are poorly managed. When pruning, pay attention to the location of the cut. Generally, cut it at the leaf axil to avoid damaging the plant. The cut branches should be taken out of the garden for disposal, especially diseased and insect-infested branches should not be left in the garden. 4. Management after pruning After pruning peppers, it is necessary to strengthen field management, remove weeds in time, and prevent and control diseases and pests. Apply 10 kg of urea per mu to promote growth and fruiting. In case of drought, timely watering should be carried out in combination with topdressing with urea to prevent drought and promote the effectiveness of fertilizers. At the same time, you can also spray 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar fertilizer once every 7 days or so, and spray continuously 2 to 3 times. The best time to spray is in the evening on a cloudy or sunny day, mainly spraying the back of the pepper leaves. 5. Notes Pay attention to hygiene when pruning and use clean scissors or pruning knives to avoid spreading germs. Be careful not to over-prune, which can damage the plant. Be careful not to cut off too many leaves to ensure normal photosynthesis. Be careful not to cut off too many flower buds to ensure normal yield formation. That’s it |
