Is jasmine easy to grow? How to raise it?

Jasmine is loved by many flower lovers for its white flowers and fresh fragrance. Although some flower lovers may find jasmine difficult to care for, others believe that jasmine requires almost no special care, and even have a saying that "it cannot be killed by watering, sun exposure, or pruning." So is jasmine easy to grow? How to raise it?

Is jasmine easy to grow?

In fact, the maintenance of jasmine is not complicated. For novices, the reason they have trouble growing jasmine is often because they don’t understand its growth habits well enough, they choose unhealthy plants, or they don’t provide proper care and suitable environmental conditions.

How to grow jasmine?

1. Soil selection

Jasmine prefers acidic soil rich in organic matter. The ideal soil ratio is: 4 parts leaf mold, 3 parts garden soil, 2 parts river sand, and 1 part cake fertilizer or livestock and poultry manure. This mixed soil ensures good water permeability and sufficient nutrients, which helps the healthy growth of jasmine roots. Placing cake fertilizer at the bottom of the pot or mixing bone meal into the soil can further improve soil fertility.

2. Time for potting

The best time to plant jasmine is April to May every year, when the climate is mild and suitable for plant growth. After potting, avoid direct sunlight and place it in a cool place first, and gradually increase the light exposure time after a few days.

3. Repotting and growing space

For jasmine that is potted in the first year, it is recommended to replace it with a slightly larger pot in the spring of the following year and add fresh fertilizer and soil to provide more space for root growth, because jasmine, as a woody plant, requires a more relaxed growing environment.

4. Watering tips

Proper watering is essential to the growth of jasmine. Too much water can cause the leaves to turn yellow, while not enough water can cause them to lose vigor. Here are some watering guidelines: In spring, as the branches grow, water every three to five days. During the flowering period in June, the frequency of watering needs to be increased, once every three days in the evening. During the hot seasons of July and August, the leaves should be sprayed with water frequently to increase the humidity. Note that if the leaves turn yellow, watering should be reduced.

In short, jasmine likes plenty of sunlight and a humid environment, but is not tolerant to waterlogging. When purchasing, choose healthy, vigorously growing plants and avoid plants with damaged roots or those with diseases and insect pests.
