Leaf cuttings are not only for succulents, but also for alum roots

Creativity, pictures: The Garden of the Ordinary

Alumroot, also known as coral bells, is a plant of the genus Alumroot in the Saxifragaceae family. It has bright leaves, charming charm, and a long flowering period, from April to October of the year. It is an ideal perennial flower border material. Alumroot has always been a favorite of foreign gardeners, and in the past two years, our country has finally introduced this flower, which has the title of the most beautiful girl in the foliage viewing world.

The operation steps of alum root leaf cuttings

1. Mix peat soil, perlite and vermiculite in a ratio of 1:1:1 to make culture soil for cuttings. Perlite can increase the air permeability of the soil, while vermiculite has good water retention properties.

2. Select the healthy leaves at the bottom of the larger plants and pick them off slowly. Whether the leaves are healthy is the key to future survival, so pay attention to the following aspects when choosing leaves:

①. Choose complete leaves, incomplete leaves cannot be chosen;

②. Choose leaves that are intact and not sunburned. Those that are sunburned cannot be used;

③ Choose ones with basically intact petioles and healthy leaves. No. 3, 4, and 5 in the picture below can all be used for cuttings.

3. Make a hole at the bottom of a transparent plastic cup and put a mesh on it (you can also use cardboard instead).

4. Mix vermiculite and perlite in a ratio of 2:1 and put them into a cup. It does not need to be filled to the brim, just fill half of the cup.

5. Put 3-5 leaves into the cup, not too many.

6. Add the medium into the cup until it is full.

7. Wet the soil with a watering can, put the cup in a container of water, and place it in a warm, ventilated place without sunlight. It will take about a month to take root. Be careful not to pull it out to check frequently!

8. When the root system has grown almost completely, you can start transplanting it into pots.
