How to propagate African Impatiens by cuttings

How to propagate African Impatiens by cuttings

time

Impatiens has the ability of self-seeding, and can spread and reproduce by itself after the seeds mature.

However, when growing African Impatiens, you can still use cuttings, especially the double-petaled varieties.

The best time to propagate African Impatiens by cuttings is in spring and autumn.

Cuttings

When propagating African Impatiens by cuttings, you must choose suitable cuttings. It is generally better to use the terminal buds for cuttings, because the terminal buds grow faster and take root faster.

When cutting cuttings, usually branches with terminal buds and 3-5 nodes are cut for cuttings, and the length is about 5-10 cm. Note that the flowers and buds should be removed, and all the leaves from the lower half should be picked off.

Colonization

First, prepare a flower pot with a diameter of 7.5 cm, fill it with perlite, being careful not to fill it up, and then insert the cuttings into the soil. One pot can be used to propagate 3-5 branches.

After cuttings, you can cover the mouth of the pot with plastic wrap to facilitate rooting of the cuttings. Generally, it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the African Impatiens to take root after cuttings, at which time it can be transplanted and planted.

When transplanting and planting, fill the flowerpot with soil, then put the plant in, fill it up with soil and compact it. Note that you can pinch the tops of the plants after planting to shape a good plant shape.
