Lantern tree seed propagation method

Lantern tree seed propagation method

Lantern tree seed propagation

Seed treatment

The seeds of the lantern tree are harvested in autumn when the fruits are ripe, and they must be dried and shelled in time. This is because the seed coat of the lantern tree is relatively hard. If the seeds are not treated, the germination rate will be very low when sown in spring.

Shade during seedling stage

The time for shading the seedlings is determined by local temperature and climatic conditions to protect the seedlings from sunburn. After entering autumn, you should gradually extend the time and intensity of light, which can effectively increase the lignification degree of the seedlings.

Thinning management

Thinning can be carried out when the seedlings grow to five to ten centimeters. The requirement for thinning is to thin out the small ones and keep the large ones, and thin out the dense ones and keep the sparse ones. It is best to do it on a rainy day. At the same time, the missing plants should be supplemented to ensure that the seedlings are evenly distributed.

Seedling transplanting

When transplanting seedlings, the stems should be cut flat and the management of fertilizer and water should be strengthened. When transplanting, the main root and lateral roots should be properly pruned to promote the germination of new roots.

Fertilization management

After the lantern tree seedlings emerge from the soil and grow roots, they should be fertilized frequently in combination with watering. During the vigorous growth period of the plant, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied to promote plant growth.

After entering autumn, stop applying nitrogen fertilizer and increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to improve the lignification degree of the plants.

In winter, farm organic fertilizer can be applied as base fertilizer, which can provide nutrients for seedlings and improve their cold resistance.
