Pull the main branch horizontally

Pulling the main branches horizontally means pulling all the branches of the rose to both sides to prevent it from growing vertically. In this way, there is no apical dominance, and many strong buds will grow at the base of the branches. When the buds grow into thick branches, the branches that were originally pulled horizontally on both sides can be cut off.

How to operate

Find a rope, tie one end to the rose branch, and tie a heavy object to the other end to hold it down. Or you can use a piece of wire, fold it in half, place it on the branch, and insert both ends of the wire into the potting soil.

Note: If there are too many buds or they are too far away from the main trunk, be sure to wipe out some of them, leaving only 2-3 thick ones.

Half-broken branches

Half-folding the branches means bending the rose branches without breaking them completely, leaving half of the bark and wood still connected. This can encourage the growth of new buds at the bottom. This method is more suitable for roses with soft branches.

45 degree side basin

That is, tilt the flower pot 45 degrees towards the side with more branches, so as to break the apical dominance. More side buds will sprout on the side with fewer branches, making the plant as a whole very plump.

How to operate

Use wire or rope to wrap the flower pot around, tilt it 45 degrees and then secure it to the railing. Or you can tilt the flower pot 45 degrees and put something under it to secure it.

1 way to make the rubber tree flourish

Rubber trees absorb carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen fluoride and can purify the air. Many families grow them, but some families’ rubber trees remain bare after several years without any side branches, which is very unsightly. So how can we make them sprout side branches?

Branch pruning

It means cutting the rubber tree in half, leaving the sprouting side branches, and using the cut branches for cuttings.

1. Use scissors to cut the trunk of the rubber tree in half.

2. After being cut, the rubber tree will ooze out white juice. At this time, you can sprinkle some wood ash.

3. Wait until there is no juice left, then wrap the wound with a plastic pad and water it. Then keep watering it until it is dry. After a few weeks, small buds will sprout!

4. When the small buds grow to about 10 cm, cut off the top. In this way, the rubber tree can grow very plump.

Cuttings

1. Use the cut branches for cuttings. Cut those that are too long into pieces, and each piece should not exceed 40 cm.

2. Dip the wound on each branch with wood ash and let it dry.

3. When the branches stop leaking liquid, you can plant them in the soil. After planting, water it thoroughly, then place it in a well-ventilated place with diffused light. Spray it with water every day to keep it moist. After a few weeks, small buds will sprout!
