How to care for Monstera

How to care for Monstera

1. Breeding soil

When caring for Monstera, you should use fertile, breathable nutrient soil, and put some broken bones at the bottom of the flowerpot as base fertilizer. It grows very fast, so the soil in the pot should be changed once a year, with new soil and a pot that suits the size of the plant.

2. Light intensity

When first planted, it needs shade to prevent burns from strong sunlight. When the plants grow up, they can receive sufficient light, but in the summer they must be shaded and not exposed to direct sunlight. In summer, it can be placed indoors or in a place with weak sunlight, and in winter it can receive full-day sunlight.

3. Watering time

Monstera needs sufficient moisture to grow, and it can be watered every day in spring and autumn when the climate is stable. After entering summer, water evaporates quickly, so you can water it twice a day and spray it more when the weather is dry. In winter, watering should be done according to the moisture of the soil, and watering can be done every 3-4 days.

4. Prevention and control of pests and diseases

1. Disease: Mainly leaf spot disease, which will harm the leaves of the plant. Usually it should be placed in a ventilated and diffused light place to reduce the chance of being damaged. Preventive measures should be taken as soon as possible after the disease occurs, and mancozeb wettable powder can be used.

2. Pests: Mainly scale insects, which often damage the petioles and leaves of plants. When a small amount appears, you can just brush it off with a soft-bristled brush; when a large amount occurs, you need to spray it with omethoate emulsifiable concentrate.
