How to propagate the hanging bamboo plum by cuttings

Cutting medium for hanging bamboo plum

Before selecting branches, you must first prepare the cutting medium to prevent the branches from losing excess water. The cutting medium, that is, the culture soil for the hanging bamboo plum, can be made of river sand, peat soil, etc., or it can be a mixture of various nutrient soils. It is best to disinfect the soil before use to remove any pathogens or insect eggs that may be mixed in the soil.

Selection of cuttings of hanging bamboo

Cut cuttings from strong mother branches. The length of the cuttings should be between five and eight centimeters, and each cutting should have three to five tender leaves to increase the survival rate of the cuttings.

Hanging bamboo plum in pot

When potting, there should be a drainage layer and fertilizer under the pot. The general order is to first spread a layer of clay or coarse sand at the bottom of the pot as a drainage layer, and then spread a layer of culture soil containing fertilizer. Finally, fill the pot to three-quarters full with the prepared cutting medium and insert the cuttings into it.

Maintenance of hanging bamboo plum

After potting, maintain suitable temperature (18 to 25 degrees Celsius), humidity (the air humidity should be at least 75%. If the air is dry, you can spray to increase the air humidity) and sufficient light to ensure that the cuttings take root normally.
