Difficulty of propagating raspberriesRaspberry, also known as mountain raspberry, is a perennial upright shrub. Raspberries like sunshine, have strong adaptability to the environment, and have a long plant lifespan. If managed well, they can generally survive for 20 years. Raspberry is also a relatively easy plant to propagate, and there are many methods of propagation, mainly two categories: root propagation and strip propagation. How to propagate raspberriesRoot propagationThe rhizomes of raspberries will sprout many root suckers every year, and in just a few years, a small plant will grow into a cluster. Autumn is a suitable time for rhizome propagation. Use tools to dig out the root millet seedlings, cut them into sections and bury them in a suitable place. They can be officially planted in the spring of next year. When digging up raspberry rhizomes, there are things called horizontal lateral roots, which can also be used to propagate raspberry seedlings. Or it can be lateral adventitious roots with buds. Dig trenches and put plants in them, water them, apply horse manure, and you can also grow raspberry seedlings. LayeringIn August of each year, pull the front end of the raspberry branch to the ground and bury it in the soil, or push the entire branch down and bury it, and new shoots will sprout that year. Wait until it grows into a strong branch and cuts off its connection with the mother plant, and a new raspberry seedling is born! Cutting methodIn autumn, cut off branches that have grown to 40 cm in one year and store them in a cellar. Take them out in early spring, dig a one-meter-wide bed and insert the two ends of the stored branches. The distance between plants is about 20 cm long, with two rows in one bed in a bow shape. Cut them off when young buds sprout. In this way, you can get two raspberry seedlings at once. |
